04/05/2010    Victory at last
A WELL DESERVED WIN FOR SENIOR TEAM OVER BLESSINGTON. AFTER PLAYING 6 GAMES--3 LOST- 2 DRAWS-1 WIN--WE NEEDED THIS WIN TO BUILD UP CONFIDENCE FOR CHAMPIONSHIP, WE STARTED OFF POOR AND WERE 3 POINTS DOWN AFTER 5 MINS.BUT THEN WE STARTED GETTING A GRIP AT MIDFIELD AND DREW LEVEL SOON AFTER WITH OUR CORNER BACK GETTING 2 OF THEM. WE GOT 3 MORE BEFORE HALF TIME AND WENT IN AT 6pts to 4 up. In second half we were picking up the breaking ball at midfield and letting it in to our forwards good and quick and they were picking off the points, however Blesso were also picking off some good points, then a long highball from way out fell to the boot of John Heff who blasted to the net to give us a bit of a cushion and we never lost the lead after that. Final score Newtown 2-11 Blessington 0-11.TEAM C McGuirl,J Owens 2pts.E O'Riordan, W Hamilton,S Mooney,A Halpin.J McShane, P O'Riordan T Halpin,J Heffernan 1-0,R Odlum 1pt,P Doyle 2pts, G Doyle 2pts,B Doyle1-1,W Cronin 1pt, Subs. 01/03/2010    Juvenile Presentation
Sunday last in the Community centre was a big day for all our Juveniles, when the great Mick O'Dwyer came along to present our Juveniles with their medals and trophies. Micko ,along with Arthur French gave a fine speech to our young players about the enjoyment and satisfaction they can get by continuing to play our national games and to avoid getting involved in drink and drugs, he paid special praise to our under 12 team who are the County A champions and that they can be senior champions in a few years if they keep training and playing gaelic football.

Well done to the Juvenile Committee on a very well organised and smoothly run presentation day,
Five of Juvenile mentors have now completed their Code of Ethics courses and have got their certificates, the remainder of coaches will complete the course on 6th of April in Newtown.
Our first senior league match is next Saturday 6th March away to Tinahely at 4pm, best of luck lads, lets get off to a winning start for 2010
