All left from Newtown for Baltinglass at 6pm, cars going in several different directions, never knew there were so many ways to get to Baltinglass. All arrived safe even if some were a little late. Throw in took place in the middle of a down pour one of many during the match. Dessie Waters opened the scoring with a point in the first minute sadly it was to be the only time we were to be in front in the match. 3 minutes in Baltinglass were to open their account with a goal, Ciaran ran off his line to a Baltinglass man, he was running up the wing when he slipped the ball over Ciaran's head to a player inside with an empty net he had the simplest of tap in. In the 6th minute Baltinglass put over another point, two more followed in the 14th and 16th minute. We were awarded a free in the 17th minute which Garret put over the bar. Ross in the 19th minute from yet another free. Heffernan with a free in the 25th minute scored aswell. Baltinglass added 2 more points before half time , one from a free and one from play leaving the score 0-4 to 1-6 at the break.
The second half stared without the rain, 33 minutes in Ross punched the ball goalwards only for the keeper to pull off a fine save. Baltinglass went on to score 6 points in the second half.38,40,42,54,58 and 59th minutes. Ross got our only point of the second half in the 57th minute leaving the final score Newtown 0-5 Baltinglass 1-12. A feature of this match was the amount of wides by the men in Black and White, some that looked harder to miss than put over the bar. Especially 3 frees from 25yards or less. Baltinglass are a team that work hard when they have the ball, men running making space and overlapping. They work even harder when the haven't got the ball, they are not afraid to make a mistake for if they do their team mates just encourage them, some lessons we could do well to learn.

What a start ! just before throw in Shane Mooney twisted his ankle while warming up, so in comes Noel McKenna to start the match. The game not 10 mins old and Dunlavin lead 0-3 to no score, was it going to be one of those nights ? just then up steps Garrett Doyle and with one kick we are level 0-3 to 1-0. Paul O'Riordan points from long range, Dean kicks in our second goal and we now lead 2-1 to 0-3. Scores start coming thick and fast for us, Dean with points in the 13th , 16th and 17th minute, Garrett with a point in the 19th minute, Ross 22 minutes with a point, Barry Davis with yet another point in the 25th minute, Ross drives one to the back of the net in the 28th minute. Garret Doyle with a point in 29th minute the half time whistle blows leaving the scores 3-8 to 0-3.
The second Half not 2 mins old Mark Fitz finds the back of the net from all of 2 yards! Dunlavin answered with a point of their own, Ross puts over the first of 4 points which he got in the second half, Barry with another point. Dunlavin get a goal in the 45th minute against the run of play. Dean answers with a goal in the 50th minute to increase our lead. Jay Fitz hits a 45 which goes straight to the back of the net in the 53rd minute. Dunlavin get a very lucky goal in the 55th minute, there were 4 subs used for Newtown with 3 of them linking up for a point in the 57th minute, Danny Brady wins the ball then moves it on to Brian Maher who sends the ball across the face of the goal where John Purdy punched it over the bar for his first point in Senior Football - Well done John. Mark Fitz finishes the scoring with 2 points in the 59th minute. There were some great points and goals scored in this match for Newtown. Well Done Men.
Final Score 6-16 to 2-4.
Its hard to pick Man of the Match for this game but Garrett Doyle, the Odlum Brothers and Fitz Brothers did well.
